What have we learned from the coronavirus? We have learned that the elderly and the vulnerable are at greater risk of death from the virus. While we cannot alter our chronological age, we can improve our biological age through healthier eating and increasing our activity daily.
Improvements only need to be small at first. Minor changes include walking, taking the stairs instead of the lift, parking the car away from the entrance to a shop and walking up the stairs if the appointment is only one floor higher. These simple changes will all begin to improve your quality of life.
We know that fad diets don’t work, are unhealthy and unsustainable. Try creating new eating habits such as avoiding dessert or substituting unhealthy snacks like crisps and biscuits for fruit. Avoid the dangerous aisles, such as sweets, biscuits, and crisps, when you are out shopping! Stick to main meals and try and avoid snacking.
We are told to wear a mask to protect others from coronavirus, but we are not told to get on the front foot in combatting this virus by instilling a healthier lifestyle. Wearing masks works as a temporary solution, but we need to address underlying issues such as obesity, which can lead to diabetes, a disease that puts you on the back foot. As a nation, we need to be proactive in addressing our health. It’s our responsibility to know what is right for us. We can’t wait to be told. Be a go-getter!
